Stephen Covey asks his audience: Why (and how!) is it that "knowledge workers" are increasingly under pressure to produce "more with less", while(overwhelmingly) a significant portion of their talents and intelligence(s) is not being used?

One of John's favorite quotes- this one gets me every time!
“Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world. Indeed, it's the only thing that ever has.”
-- Margaret Mead

View from the Top: A Pitch for Deeper Green Thinking from Venture Capitalist John DoerrVenture capitalist John Doerr doesn't believe the world's population will change its wasteful ways in time to stop global warming, he told an overflow audience at the Stanford Graduate School of Business. Peter Drucker, On Communication

In communicating, the first question has to be, “Is this communicationwithin the recipient’s range of perception? Can he receive it?” . . . If communication fits in with the aspirations, the values, the purposes of the recipient, it is powerful. If it goes against his aspirations, his values, his motivation, it is likely not to be received at all, or, at best, to be resisted.

HARD IS SOFT. SOFT IS HARD.
THE READILY-MANIPULABLE NUMBERS ARE THE TRUE "SOFT STUFF."
THE RELATIONSHIPS-LEADERSHIP-"CULTURE"-"ACTION BIAS" [OR NOT] ARE THE TRUE "HARD STUFF."

Deloitte's Michael E. Raynor
Deloitte's Michael E. Raynor
discusses the strategy paradox.

Vision. Commitment. Focus. Learn more
Day: Wednesday, November 21, 2007
Time: 6:45pm - 8:30pm
Ryerson University - Ted Rogers School of Management
Entrance: 55 Dundas Street West
http://www.michaelraynor.com/speaking-events.html
I attended this lecture (above) by Michael Raynor; his presentation was [O]utstanding! Two of my Friends came along: Michael Reading (a visiting scholar at the University of Toronto) and Matt Held (currently founder/CEO of a very promising iTech Services firm).
Michael Raynor's talk was (unusually) engaging, and the Q&A was very stimulating; he gave us much to think about (email me if you care to have my notes and Q&A). He recommended these seminal books: Michael Porter's "Competitive Strategy" and Jim Collins' "Good to Great".
